Jin, Zhi is a professor in the School of Computer Science, and serves as the Deputy Director of High-Confidence Software Technologies (Ministry of Education) since 2009. She obtained her B.Sc. from Zhejiang University in 1984, and Ph.D. from National University of Defense Technology in 1992 respectively. Her research interests include knowledge engineering, requirements engineering and knowledge-based software engineering.
Zhi Jin has been a winner for several national-wide awards in China because of her outstanding research achievements. She has attracted and leads over 20 national competitive grants which include the Premier’s Award of Distinguished Young Scientists in China awarded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2006. She was the First Chief Investigator for three national-level projects and two bilateral collaboration international projects. She is now the chief-scientist of a national basic research program in China. She has published two monographs, over 40 peer-reviewed journal papers and 60 international conference papers.
Zhi Jin has been working on knowledge-based requirements engineering for over twenty years and has expertise, skills and research background in this field. She is leading the development of domain-modelling based requirements engineering for solving the most difficult problem in requirements engineering, i.e. communication and the automated requirements modelling and analysis built upon domain models. This work has been referred by UK Magazine AI WATCH as the first example that is putting the idea of using domain-specific KBSs to support mainstream software development into practice. Along this line, she has proposed the domain environment modelling based software capability specification which has been used in the service description and composition in Service Oriented Computing as well as some non-functionality modelling and analysis, e.g. security and adaptivity. She has published a series of papers in leading journals and conferences on these topics.
Zhi Jin has worked on how to effectively build the domain ontology and developed many automatic approaches which have been implemented to become a usable industrial tool. This tool has won the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award (Ministry of Education, China) and has contributed to regional Industry, as evidenced by the technology transfer grants with industry companies like Delta Group, Huawei and INSIGMA Empire, etc. Additionally, she has worked on another difficult issue in requirements engineering, i.e. the inconsistency handling. She and her colleagues proposed an integrated measurement for locating and resolving inconsistency with the potential to develop a usable industrial tool.
